Lovely Lady Liberty

Emma Lazarus published this after watching refugees coming in from Russia. It was used to raise funds for the Statue of Liberty's pedestal. These words are inscribed on the statue's base:

Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
